This data set lists non-profit organizations with addresses in Cambridge, MA. Organizations qualify as non-profits if they have IRS recognition of tax-exempt status. Certain types of public charities, such as churches and organizations with less than $5,000 in gross receipts, are not required to file for official 501(c)(3) status and may not be listed here.

This data set provides information about the Cambridge labor force, those residents of Cambridge who are either employed or actively seeking employment. Includes data on the size of the labor force, the seasonally unadjusted employment rate for Cambridge and the unadjusted employment rates for the state and nation. Note that these data are periodically revised.

This data set indicates how many people employed in Cambridge are covered by the unemployment insurance compensation system, the number employed by economic sector, and how much these workers earn.

The data covers the work force in Cambridge, regardless of their place of residence, and are taken from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, ES-202 Series based on the requirements set forth in the Massachusetts Employment Security Law and the Compensation for Federal Employees Law. Note that the unemployment compensation system does cover all workers, excluding groups such as the self-employer, religious workers and some domestic workers.

This data set assigns workers to sectors using the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) code system. Prior to 2001 only the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system was used to assign workers to sectors. Older, historic data is available in the open data set "Cambridge Workforce By Industry: 1967 - 2001". The 2001 figures summarize the same raw data but are recoded to NAICS here.

Note that Natural Resources and Mining establishments are not included in the industry breakdown but are included in total employment.

This dataset is no longer being updated as of 7/1/2021. It is being retained on the Open Data Portal for its potential historical interest.

A list of retail stores, restaurants, personal services and other businesses open and closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also indicates if business is offering delivery, pick up or on-line sales.

Data about applications submitted by employers requesting visas to employ foreign citizens in Cambridge, MA and received by the U.S. Department of Labor through the Labor Condition Application (LCA) and the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) programs. The LCA program covers H-1B, H-1B1 and E-3 visas.

Each row in the data set represents a single employer application. In the LCA program this application can request one or more positions. Employers can make multiple applications during a single year.

The Commercial District Assessment Customer Intercept survey collects data about a commercial district consumer characteristics. Understanding current consumer characteristics improves knowledge of how visitors and residents utilize the district, and how they would like the district to evolve in the future. Data is collected annually in one or more commercial districts by the Community Development Department. In 2017 the survey changed format from the previous customer intercept survey, based on recommendations from the City’s Retail Strategy Report. The Cambridge Business Diversity Directory is a tool connecting local businesses owned by historically excluded proprietors to customers. The Directory aims to elevate businesses owned by women, people of color, veterans, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals of Portuguese descent. The Directory serves as a marketing and networking tool to connect these businesses with consumers, companies, and other institutions.

Those listed in this directory range in longevity, from businesses and entities that recently opened in Cambridge to legacy businesses and entities that have been in operation over 50 years. Businesses and entities listed in this edition have elected to be listed as self-identifying members of a historically excluded group. Though the Cambridge Business Diversity Directory is updated regularly, it is not a comprehensive representation of the many diverse businesses and entities operating in the city.
