This layer contains polygons representing individual properties, usually a single parcel or building. The GIS data layer was created from paper documents. The Historical_LandmarksEasements layer contains individual parcels and buildings that are designated by the City Council as Cambridge Landmarks or that are protected by way of a voluntary donation of a preservation easement (aka preservation restriction) by a property owner to the City’s Historical Commission. Changes to the layer come about a few times a year as new landmarks and easements are so designated.

This point layer is are all of the Cobrahead street lights which will be replaced throughout the summer of 2014. There are other types of lights in the City which are not included in this GIS layer. Decorative street lights which will be replaced in 2015, and lights owned by others (DCR, Universities, & private) have not been verified for accuracy yet and will be included in a future update of this layer.

This polygon layer contains the zoning overlay districts in the City of Cambridge that set out additional or alternative zoning regulations to an area's base zoning restrictions. Overlay districts typically govern aesthetic and physical features, rather than restricting use. Created as part of Cambridge's Zoning Ordinance to delineate zoning overlay district boundaries.

This polygon layer contains all of the property parcels in Cambridge. Each parcel has a unique Map and Lot ID number that links it to a record in the Assessing Department's Vision database system.
Created for internal use by the Assessing Department to provide a visual reference associated with each parcel in the CAMA database. Created for interdepartmental and external use as part of the web viewers on the City's website. Also created for addressing/geocoding needs, although the Buildings and Master Address List are currently more accurate than Parcels. NOTE: The Parcels GIS data layer is NOT used by Assessing to calculate land area or taxes. Assessors refer to actual deeds or plans accepted by the Massachusetts Land Court. The figures stored in the GIS data layer are for general reference purposes only.

Description
This data set derives from several sources. The primary source is a data dump from the VISION assessing data system, which provided data up to date as of January 1, 2012, and is supplemented by information from subsequent building permits and Development Logs. (Use codes provided by this system combine aspects of land use, tax status, and condominium status. In an effort to clarify land use type the data has been cleaned and subdivided to break the original use code into several different fields.) The data set has further been supplemented and updated with development information provided by building permits issued by the Inspectional Services Department and from data found in the Development Log publication. Information from these sources is added to the data set periodically. Land use status is up to date as of the Last Modified date.

Differences From “Official” Parcel Layer
The Cambridge GIS system maintains a separate layer of land parcels reflecting up to date subdivision and ownership. The parcel data associated with the Land Use Data set differs from the “official” parcel layer in a number of cases. For that reason this separate parcel layer is provided to work with land use data in a GIS environment. See the Assessing Department’s Parcel layer for the most up-to-date land parcel boundaries.
