This dataset contains compliance status and energy and water use data gathered through the Building Energy Use Disclosure Ordinance (BEUDO). Property details, energy use and water use data are submitted by property owners or managers whose properties are subject to BEUDO through an online energy and water use benchmarking tool called ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager. Parcel level property information is obtained from the City of Cambridge Property Database.
Energy and water use information submitted by property owners and managers is shown for properties that first began reporting in the 2015 BEUDO reporting cycle. These include nonresidential properties 50,000 square feet or more, residential properties with 50 or more units and municipal properties 10,000 square feet or more. In 2016, nonresidential properties 25,000 square feet or more began submitting reports for the first time and their data was disclosed beginning in 2017.
Please note that the “Property Type” column distinguishes reports based on whether they contain information about a single building or multiple buildings. If you are running summary statistics on this dataset, make sure to avoid duplicating data by filtering for “single” reports and “parent” reports. Child properties are buildings also included in parent reports. The “Buildings Included” column details what buildings are included in parent reports, with the first building ID indicating the parent property.
Note that the reporting year is the year data was submitted for the property, which represents energy use for the prior calendar year. For example, rows with reporting year 2021 represent energy use for calendar year 2020.

Foreclosure is the process through which lenders recover the amount owed on a defaulted mortgage by selling or taking ownership of the property securing the loan. This data set tracks housing foreclosures at three points during the process: filing of a petition to foreclose, scheduling of a foreclosure auction, and filing of a foreclosure deed.

The Economic Development Division of the Community Development Department maintains a listing of Cambridge’s ground floor vacant storefronts. This listing is not intended as a comprehensive source for ground floor vacancies in Cambridge. The data is sourced from Costar (an online real estate database), Cambridge Assessing Property Database, and staff commercial district inventory collection.
To learn more, please visit the Economic Development Division's interactive map on the topic, viewable at the following URL: https://cambridgegis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapTour/index.html?appid=8eb311a7bf3c48fcb10527eda76deddc

This dataset includes Point-in-Time (PIT) data collected in Cambridge between 2012 and 2017. The PIT count is a count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons on a single night in January. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires that communities receiving funding through the Continuum of Care (CoC) Program conduct an annual count of homeless persons on a single night in the last 10 days of January, and these data contribute to national estimates of homelessness reported in the Annual Homeless Assessment Report to the U.S. Congress. This dataset is comprised of data submitted to, and stored in, HUD’s Homelessness Data Exchange (HDX).
This dataset includes basic counts and demographic information of persons experiencing homelessness on each PIT date from 2012-2017. The dataset contains four rows for each year, including one row for each housing type: Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, or Unsheltered. The dataset also includes housing inventory counts of the number of shelter and transitional housing units available on each of the PIT count dates.
Information about persons staying in emergency shelters and transitional housing units is exported from the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), which is the primary database for recording client-level service records. Information about persons in unsheltered situations is compiled by first conducting an overnight street count of persons observed sleeping outdoors on the PIT night to establish the total number of unsheltered persons. Demographic information for unsheltered persons is then extrapolated by utilizing assessment data collected by street outreach workers during the 7 days following the PIT count.

The Development Log provides a record of large-scale development projects occurring in the City of Cambridge. The Log, updated on a quarterly basis, is distributed to City departments and the public to keep them posted about development progress, from permitting through construction to completion. The table includes general project information, such as development status and statistics related to the entire project. The Current Edition table lists all developments found in the last published edition of the Log, whose status range from In permitting to Complete in the then current calendar year. For projects completed in earlier calendar years see https://data.cambridgema.gov/Planning/Development-Log-Historical-Projects-Use-Data/r5mv-isth
Since a project may include more than one use, data on each specific use found within a project is found in the associated Development Log Project Use table. Found here: https://data.cambridgema.gov/Planning/Development-Log-Current-Edition-Project-Use-Data/5nqm-2ns2

These median incomes were estimated in a two step process. Income related blockgroup data from the 2017-2021 American Community Survey was recompiled by the Cambridge Community Development Department to align with approximate neighborhood boundaries. Median values were then interpolated for each geographic area from the compiled distribution of incomes. All amounts reported in 2021 dollars.

The Log, updated on a quarterly basis, is distributed to City departments and the public to keep them posted about development progress, from permitting through construction to completion. A separate Development Log table includes general project information, such as development status and statistics related to the entire project.
The MapLot Table provides location information used by the Cambridge Assessing Department for all developments found in the last published edition of the Log, whose status range from In Permitting to Complete in the current calendar year, as well as any completed since 2011.

Description
This data set derives from several sources. The primary source is a data dump from the VISION assessing data system, which provided data up to date as of January 1, 2012, and is supplemented by information from subsequent building permits and Development Logs. (Use codes provided by this system combine aspects of land use, tax status, and condominium status. In an effort to clarify land use type the data has been cleaned and subdivided to break the original use code into several different fields.) The data set has further been supplemented and updated with development information provided by building permits issued by the Inspectional Services Department and from data found in the Development Log publication. Information from these sources is added to the data set periodically. Land use status is up to date as of the Last Modified date.

Differences From “Official” Parcel Layer
The Cambridge GIS system maintains a separate layer of land parcels reflecting up to date subdivision and ownership. The parcel data associated with the Land Use Data set differs from the “official” parcel layer in a number of cases. For that reason this separate parcel layer is provided to work with land use data in a GIS environment. See the Assessing Department’s Parcel layer for the most up-to-date land parcel boundaries.
About Edit Dates
